Breathe - photo exhibition by Jóna in the Norwegian House

A photo exhibition of Jóna Þorvaldsdóttir's black-and-white art photographs is currently taking place in Norska Húsið.

Jóna will be there with an artist talk on Saturday, March 30 from 16-18. Light refreshments available.

With her photographic works, which are shrouded in mystery and softness, Jóna is passing on what she perceives and experiences every time. They do not necessarily reflect reality as it appears to us, but they are a journey into her world, into the world she imagines.

When she is photographing, she allows her intuition and the environment to work with her, working from what happens. Sometimes she takes pictures simply because she feels comfortable in the place or when something subconsciously calls to her.

"My paintings are my personal inner experience, but the viewer can interpret them in their own way". Jóna likes to let her imagination run wild and contemplate various shapes and creatures that appear in nature that can change and disappear in a moment.

At first glance, many of her pictures appear to be only landscapes or shapes, but upon closer inspection, you can see various creatures acting. It all depends on how each person sees and experiences the footage.

The craft is very important to her. She develops the films herself and enjoys manually enlarging the photographs in the quiet of her darkroom and processing them by hand. Each and every photograph is unique as digital technology does not come close.

Jóna studied photography in Warsaw, Poland, and has since attended various workshops and held numerous exhibitions.

The exhibition will be open Tuesday - Saturday from 13.-16.
