In the Company of Objects
45th anniversary exhibition of The Icelandic Association of Ceramic Artists
In the Company of Objects exhibits works from 34 ceramic artists dealing with functional objects. Ceramics are an inseparable part of everyday life, and loaded with emotional value and cultural history. Dinner plates used daily, coffee cups passed down through generations, china only brought out on special occasions, and vases placed at the center of a dinner table all form a setting for togetherness and form sites of connection.
The members of the Icelandic Ceramics Association are a diverse group of artists with unique approaches to object making. The exhibition features everything from simple and carefully designed vessels, intricate decorative objects, and sculptural works that raise questions about what defines functionality. Visitors are invited to spend time with these varied objects and consider both new and old ways of using ceramics as a medium for social interaction.
